Student Support
Pastoral Support
The first point of contact for pastoral support is the Head of Sixth Form and the Deputy Head of Sixth Form. These staff are then supported by an incredibly dedicated teaching team and a highly skilled network of non-teaching staff. SGGS provides understanding and professional support for students both within lessons and in the wider school life.
Sixth Form students have access to a Learning Mentor who can advise and guide them when they need support. When they step up to Year 12, they are greeted with an individual welcome conversation, designed to promote a bespoke experience and ensure any pastoral or academic needs are established early. The Learning Mentor is available to Sixth Form students throughout their time of study at SGGS, in addition to in-house workshops, access to a learning resources room and dedicated spaces and study rooms in the Manor.
Pastoral and academic support needs are often linked and referral for 1-2-1 mentoring services can come from a member of the support structure, or the student themselves. The door is always open for students speak to someone; no concern or worry is ever seen as too big or too small.
SEND
We do ask that external students who are joining SGGS Sixth From disclose any SEND needs as early as possible, so that we may begin devising their Learning Passport.
Every student with Special Educational Needs (SEND) at SGGS receives a Learning Passport. This digital file condenses relevant information in order to inform teachers of the individual needs of the student and thus enables to them to adapt their lessons accordingly.
Our teachers are experts at identifying students who require extra support and assisting students who require additional exam arrangements. Students have access to a variety of useful equipment such as computer voice software and reader pens.
Our entire SEND provision is overseen by our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) and this includes liaison with outside agencies such as Educational Psychologists. Sixth Form students with SEND needs have access to extra revision sessions and quiet study rooms in the Manor.
SGGS has invested in comprehensive facilities for disabled access.

Additional support provisions
SGGS also partners with several external services to provide additional support for students whenever this is required.
Lifespace is an organisation that mentors young people to help them reduce stress, build resilience and achieve more. SGGS engages with Lifespace to provide students with access to an expert interventions system for scenarios that require support beyond standard provisions. Students are referred to Lifespace by their Head of House, with trained mentor sessions available several times per week. Students can request the gender or ethnicity of mentors that they will feel most comfortable speaking with.
SGGS also connects with specialist services such as The Shakespeare Hospice to provide relevant support of the highest standard if any students find themselves facing unique or challenging circumstances.
