Welcome from Headteacher Mrs Cornell

In our latest blog, Jacqui Cornell, Headteacher welcomes our leavers to the SGGS Alumnae.

Despite unprecedented circumstances, another set of GCSE and A-level results have now been shared with students who find themselves busily executing plans that will lead to exciting futures. Many of our Year 11 students are preparing to re-join us next month as members of our Sixth Form, but some will be leaving us along with our Year 13s to take up alternative arrangements for the last two years of their secondary education.

For those students who are set to depart SGGS, we would like to wish you good luck, but not goodbye. You have been an instrumental member of our community and success, and you will remain a part of the SGGS family as members of our alumnae for years to come.

We are proud of the strong links we enjoy with our alumnae community; our current students have benefited enormously from hearing from some of them through our Sixth Form Speaker Programme, as they have shared their journeys so far, and offered advice to those wishing to follow in their footsteps.  Many of our alumnae work with our Careers department to offer advice, guidance and work experience opportunities, and of course our annual musical concert which invites alumnae back to perform with current students is always a wonderful event.  Lots of departments within school are in touch with our alumnae, and it is these links that help to foster opportunities both inside and outside of our school community.

The last school year was set to be a quiet one in terms of alumnae events, as our Manor underwent a refurbishment which included a new roof at last.  This meant that the school site was busy with workmen and scaffolding along with their portakabins and vans as well as operating the school as usual.  COVID-19 turned things on their head again, and of course the school went into lockdown with the rest of the world, with the exception of provision for keyworkers' children and vulnerable children.

We are looking forward to the next school year as things hopefully return to more familiar ground.  With that in mind, we look forward to seeing a number of our alumnae back at school, whether through reunions, members of the audience at one of our concerts or performances, or perhaps as parents of our current students.  For those new to the alumnae, a warm welcome to you.  We look forward to celebrating your continued success as you journey on to your next adventures.

If you would like to be added to the Alumnae database and be provided with links to private social media groups, get in touch at any time by emailing directly to alumnae@sggs.org.uk
