Continuing the School's Upward Trend of Success

Press Release

February 2021

Stratford Girl’s Grammar School Sixth Form students are celebrating this week after securing an impressively high percentage of offers for future places at Oxford University and Cambridge University.

28 students from the current Year 13 achieved interviews for places at the prestigious institutions, and prospective offers have now been made to 10% of the entire year group. Stratford Girls’ Grammar School (SGGS) is based in Shottery on the outskirts of Stratford-upon-Avon and is a fully selective girls’ academy state school and Sixth Form, consistently ranked as one of the top 30 state schools in the country.

The successful students have secured their places at Oxford University and Cambridge University for September 2021 intake in subjects as varied as Natural Sciences, History, Art, Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and  Modern & Medieval Languages. The percentage of students achieving offers for places at Oxford and Cambridge has remained consistently strong at SGGS, increasing year on year from 7% in 2018 and now reaching 10% for 2021.

Headteacher, Jacqui Cornell, says, “The resilience and determination of our students during these unusual times is exceptional.  I am delighted that 10% of our cohort have received Oxbridge offers, continuing our proven track record of shaping futures and supporting all of our students in securing their first-choice destinations.”

In addition to the performance of its own students, SGGS is also celebrating the recent success of schools within its outreach programme.  Foxford Community School received  application support and interview preparation from the SGGS Science department, and have now received their first offer for a female student to read Biology at Oxford. SGGS also has strong connections with Alcester Grammar School, with whom they partner for mock-interview programmes and other useful events and resources.

Last year, SGGS rolled out a comprehensive virtual environment in under one week in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual lessons and events remain in place to replace many face-to-face activities, with both standards and performance levels remaining consistently high.
